The Yorkshire Terrier, often called simply the Yorkie, is a breed of small dog in the toy category. The Yorkshire Terrier seems oblivious of its small size and even though this breed is small, it will act as a guardian for its family.
It is ever eager for adventure and trouble. The Yorkie was bred as a ratter, used to kill mice and rats in small places. The Yorkshire Terrier is a young breed that was developed by working men of North England. The "Yorkie" quickly became a popular pet, especially for women. They would carry this small dog under the arm or in the bags.
The ultra long, fine, silky coat parts along the spine and falls straight down on either side. It is steal blue on the body and tail, and tan elsewhere.
The Yorkshire Terrier was introduced in the United States in 1872. The first Yorkie was registered with the American Kennel Club in 1878.
The normal height is 6-7 inches with weight of 7 pounds. |
