The "Welshie" is a hardy gun dog was developed in Wales. Favored by wealthy Englishmen as an all-purpose hunting dog, this breed excelled in water and land for use with all types of game. The Welsh Springer Spaniel derived their name from their style of hunting, "springing" in the air to flush out game ahead of their hunting companion.

The Welsh Springer Spaniel was originally called the Welsh Spaniel, but was also known as the Welsh Cocker. It was recognised by The Kennel Club, after the breed had gained popularity, in 1902 under the name Welsh Springer Spaniel.

The Welsh Springer Spaniel is a compact, medium-sized dog with a silky dark red & white coat. The hair is straight or slightly wavy, flat, and medium-length with feathering on the chest, undersides, legs, and tail.

This breed is affectionate, happy, and excellent with children. They are active, loyal, friendly, and exhibit a playful attitude. The Welsh Springer Spaniel is an active dog displaying a loyal and affectionate disposition. Although reserved with strangers, he is not timid, shy nor unfriendly. To this day he remains a devoted family member and hunting companion.

The normal height is 16-20 inches with a weight of 35-45 pounds.
