Vizslas are known as excellent hunting dogs, and also have a level personality making them suited for families. The Hungarian Vizsla, a pointing dog, represents one of the best in sporting dogs and loyal companions.
Vizslas are lively, gentle-mannered, loyal, caring and highly affectionate. They quickly form close bonds with their owners, including children. Often they are referred to as "velcro" dogs because of their loyalty and affection.
The Vizsla belongs in dogdom's aristocracy; he shows it in dignified bearing and proves it in recorded history. While the Vizsla is new to the Western World it is perhaps the oldest bred of the great European Vorstehund group of shorthaired pointing and retrieving dogs. The Vizsla achieved recognition as a breed centuries ago.
They are quiet dogs, only barking if necessary or provoked. The Vizsla is a natural hunter endowed with a good nose and trainability. Lively, gentle-mannered, demonstrably affectionate and sensitive though fearless with a well developed protective instinct. The normal height is 20-26 inches and weight is 40-60 pounds. |
