The Shetland Sheepdog, better known as the Sheltie has a long double coat, sporting a frill around the neck area. Shetland Sheepdogs are bright, energetic, and cheerful dogs with a love of life and their human companions.

They are great with children, quick to learn, and eager to please. Their nature is to obey willingly which makes them an ideal dog.

The Shetland Sheepdog’s history is hidden in the mists of the Shetland Islands off the coast of Scotland. It has been proven that the Shetland Sheepdog is a marvelous herding and companion dog.

The Shetland Sheepdog is a strong, nimble, lightly built, beautiful dog, with a long, wedge-shaped head. Its coat is rough with a soft undercoat. Some say they are almost a perfect miniature copy in of the long-haired collie.

A small dog of even temperament and rough coat, the Shetland Sheepdog is a dog that can withstand chilly temperatures well, and fits well in a family unit. Their small size and sweet disposition make them an ideal pet for apartment dwellers, children, and even the elderly.

The normal height is 15 inches and weight is 14 to 27 pounds.
