The Scottish Terrier us popularly called the Scottie. It is a breed of dog best known for its distinctive profile, short legs and the way it is groomed makes them look even shorter. Even so, it is a strong, active animal and surprisingly agile.
The low stature and wiry coat have always been important characteristics to the original purpose of the breed, which was to hunt and kill the various species of wildlife. These species included fox, badger, wildcat, weasel, otter, and the ubiquitous rat.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Scottie Fala came to live in the White House and soon took over as the President's constant companion. Shortly after his election in 2000, President George W. Bush received a Scottie puppy as a gift.
The normal height is 10-11 inches and the weight is 19-23 pounds. |
