The Gordon Setter is a good-sized, sturdily built, black and tan dog, well muscled, with plenty of bone and substance, but active, upstanding and stylish, appearing capable of doing a full day's work in the field.
The Gordon Setter was originally developed in the 1600's in Scotland and was later made popular in the late 1700's by Duke Alexander IV of Gordon. This breed first started to hunt fowl almost 200 years ago.
A Gordon Setter is a large breed of dog, a member of the setter family that also includes both the better-known Irish Setter and the English Setter. The Gordon Setter differs from the English and Irish setters in that it has a more robust structure, a more massive head, and more fully developed lips, as well as by the color of it silky, wavy coat. It is the only black & tan setter.
The Gordon Setter is alert, happy, interested, and aggressive. He is fearless and willing, intelligent and capable. He is loyal and affectionate, and strong-minded enough to stand the rigors of training.
The normal height is 23-27 inches and weight of 45-80 pounds. |
