Most everyone remembers Lassie as the perfect family pet. Collies are naturally obedient and make very good companions for children.

However, do not expect this breed to be a fierce guardian. The Collie is too friendly, even to strangers.

If you ever saw a "Lassie" movie on television, then you've seen these beautiful dogs in action. "Lassie" was the strong, loyal companion who always saved his human master from many perils.

A Collie is a well known breed of dog that has been in existence for hundred of years. Strong, intelligent, and energetic, the Collie dog originally came from Scotland in the eighteen hundreds.

This type of canine was used by sheep herders in the fields and green knolls of Scotland to round up the flocks. It wasn't until the late eighteen hundreds that the Collie finally came to the United States.

Collies are extremely loyal, intelligent, and well-tempered animals. The Collie pup can grow up to be about two feet tall and be around sixty to seventy pounds in weight. It's affectionate and good natured personality make it a wonderful companion. The best home for a Collie would be one that has a large grassy yard for it to run and play in.
