The stout and courageous Boxer was originally bred to hunt fierce game such as bear and wild boar. It also has a history of military and police service. Although playful and full of energy, the Boxer is gentle and very good with children.

Lots of outdoor exercise is required to prevent the breed’s tendency to become obese. The Boxer’s short coat sheds, but regular brushing will keep loose hair to a minimum. This is another breed that is too sensitive to temperature to be kept outside and must be an inside pet. The Boxer is a breed of stocky, medium-sized, short-haired dog.

Boxers are calm dogs that will not bark without cause. The Boxer is happy, high-spirited, playful, curious and energetic. Highly intelligent, eager and quick to learn, but can be stubborn and sneaky. Constantly on the move, bonding very closely with the family, they are loyal and affectionate. Boxers are known for the way they get along so well with children. The Boxer's nature is to protect you, your family, and your home. Known visitors will be welcomed boisterously.

They've been trained to be hunting dogs, police dogs, seeing-eye dogs, guard dogs, circus dogs and courier dogs on the battlefield. The American Kennel Club (AKC) categorizes Boxer Dogs as the largest breed registered in the "working dog" category.

They are great companions and will be a part of your family for many years. An adult Boxer typically weighs between 55 and 70 lbs and is between 23 and 25 inches tall.
